It is a naturally-occurring chemical which the body gains from food and produces for itself. However, ubiquinone needs to undergo a change before the body can make active use of it. It is transformed into the CoQ10 variant called ubiquinol, which is what the body actually uses inside cells. Ubiquinol takes part in the process by which cells draw in oxygen and use it to make energy.
